Students show immense interest in Skill development courses of Khalsa College Amritsar

 

Khalsa College Amritsar Skill Development Centre started new courses from 24.02.2020 which were well received by the aspirants. Working on the lines of “Skill India Mission”, Khalsa College Amritsar has established a Skill development Centre in the campus. This centre will provide skill development training to students. Students of any stream with minimum qualification 10th are eligible to apply for these courses. Each student who is enrolled under any course will have to get both theory and practical training necessary for the course. After completion of the course the College will provide a certificate of completion. These courses will be taught by well trained and experienced faculty members.

The induction programme for the first batch of 60 students was held in the college hall on 24.02.2020. Speaking on this occasion, Principal Dr. Mahal Singh announced that the Khalsa College Amritsar, is committed to provide skill training to the students of the college and the youths of the adjoining areas. He shared that in these short-term courses of 2 to 6 months duration, the students will be trained in different skills.

Dr.Mehal Singh said that now-a-days traditional courses are providing knowledge but not the skills sought by the industry. As a result, the students even after having distinction in their academics are not getting the required jobs. Students trained in a particular skill on the other hand have a lot of opportunities to get good jobs or start their own ventures. Moreover, these courses can be pursued along with the normal studies. He encouraged the students to do these courses very sincerely.

Dr. M.S. Batra, Director, Skill Development Centre welcomed the students joining the first batch of skill development courses. He shared that students have shown immense interest in these courses, apart from the students of college, students from other parts of Punjab are also coming forward for these courses. He shared that courses on Office automation, Computerized Accounting Software, Gurmat Sangeet , Food and vegetable processing, Office Automation, Web designing, Photography, Acting and Theatrical arts, Communication Skills and Personality Development and Fabric Painting have been started.

Prof Sukhmeen Bedi, Dean Academic Affairs of the College emphasized that for getting confidence in life, all students should opt for communication and personality development programme. She announced that a part of each skill development course will be dedicated to training in communication and presentation skills. 

The programme was attended by Prof   Devender Singh, Registrar of the college, Dr.Taminder Singh Coordinator IQAC, Dr. Avtar Singh, Head Department of Commerce and Business administration, Prof Harbhajan Singh, Head Department of Computer Science, Prof. Jasmeet Kaur, Head, Department of Fashion Technology, and other staff members.
