Awareness Program on Environmental Hazards of Electronic Waste organised by Computer Science Department

 

 

P.G. Department of Computer Science & Applications of Khalsa College Amritsar organized an “Awareness Program on Environmental Hazards of Electronic Waste” Seminar  on 16/02/2019. This programme is under the  “Digital India” an initiative of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Govt. of India to sensitize and impart knowledge among the students and society about the proper management, disposal and channelization of E- waste. Principal Dr. Mehal Singh and Prof. Harbhajan Singh, Head Computer Science welcomed the delegates Mr. Binesh Bhatia and Mr. Varun Sahdev from CEAMA & MAIT             .

The lecture was delivered by Mr. Binesh Bhatia (Trainer, CEAMA). He discussed about the ill effects of the electronic waste and how it is degrading our environment and creating health issues across the globe. He highlighted that E-waste is an emerging global environmental and public health issue. China, USA, Japan and India are leading E-waste producers and so they have become global recycling hubs. India is producing 1.8 Million Metric Tones of E-waste every year. He also emphasized on to submit obsolete electronic products to the authorized collection centers only.

Apart from this students of Khalsa College also participated in Slogan Writing Competition on the theme of E-waste and the theatre team of Khalsa college played a Nukkad Natak which depicted the harmful effects of electronic waste.

Principal Dr. Mehal Singh, said we will create a collection centre of E-waste in our college premises and Prof. Harbhajan Singh, Head, P.G. Department of Computer Science & Applications said that we will carry forward this campaign to every nook and corner of the state. Also present a college photograph to our worthy guests.

Prof. Sukhpuneet Kaur conducted the stage. Prof Sukhwinder Kaur (Co-Convener Tech-Era Computer Society), Dr. Mani Arora, Prof. Anureet Kaur, Prof. Rajkaran Singh, Prof. Jagbir Singh, Prof. Ravi Patni, Prof. Guneet Kaur, Prof. Sonali Tuli, Prof. Kulbir Kaur and all other staff members were also present during this event.
