Hindi Diwas Celebrated at Khalsa College Amritsar


 

 

Hindi Diwas was celebrated with great fervour by the Department of Hindi at Khalsa College Amritsar. To mark the celebrations a Seminar on famous playwright Bhartendu Harishchander was conducted in which Dr. Harmohinder Singh Bedi Chancellor Central University, Dharamshala was the Chief Guest. Dr Sunil Kumar from GNDU and Dr. Poonam Mahajan from SDAM College, Dinanagar presented their papers on the relevance of Bharatendu's plays and their theatricals. Principal Dr. Mehal Singh ji while welcoming the guests observed that literature of any society manifests the value system and it also provides the guidance to the future generation. Dr. Bedi while congratulating the staff and students on Hindi Diwas observed that Hindi language is the main link language of India which provides a harmonious relationship among all the Indian Languages. He was of the view that Bhartendu is not only the father of Modern Hindi Literature but he can also be termed as the father of modern Hindi satire which is at its best in his plays. Two books written by Dr. Surjeet Kaur were also released on this occasion which according to Dr. Bedi is a significant contribution to the Hindi world. The students of the college who participated in creative writing competition organised by the Department were also honoured on this occasion. Later the department of Theatre Studies enthralled all the students and staff members by staging the famous One Act Play 'Andher Nagari' written by Bhartendu Harishchandar.
